The Pembroke

The Chelsea boot is one of the more durable silhouettes in menswear — it has been worn by working men, musicians, and gentlemen in roughly equal measure since the middle of the last century, and it has survived because the construction is inherently practical and the profile is inherently elegant. Our version takes no liberties with the form: the gusset is elasticated to the correct depth, the shaft height sits cleanly at the ankle, and the toe is rounded on a last that complements rather than distorts the foot's natural shape. The Pembroke is the Chelsea boot for a man who wants the real thing.

Full-grain calfskin in a deep, even black sourced from a tannery in the Marche region of central Italy. The surface is smooth and holds a high polish in the toe and heel areas, but the character of the leather — its natural grain and slight variation in depth — remains visible. The elastic gusset panels are a fine-gauge material matched closely to the leather tone. The lining is smooth calf throughout, and the leather insole is vegetable-tanned and will mould to your foot over the first months of wear.

Goodyear welt construction — the upper, welt, and sole stitched together in a way that allows the outsole to be replaced when it wears down, typically after several years of regular use. The outsole is leather with a rubber heel for traction and durability. The heel block is stacked leather, shaped and bevelled by hand. The elastic gusset panels are stitched in using a technique that keeps the join clean and flat on the inside of the boot.

The Pembroke runs true to size on our standard last. The Chelsea construction offers no lace adjustment, so customers between sizes should size up. The elastic gusset will ease slightly after the first few weeks of wear, which improves entry and exit without affecting the security of fit across the instep. Customers with a particularly high instep may find the entry a challenge initially — this improves with wear.

Orders are dispatched within two to three business days.
